These mixes are a joy to put together. The freedom that comes with an almost any goes mentality is liberating. The house mixes, I still occasionally do, are enjoyable but they lack any longevity. House mixes, save for the timeless classics, are a moment in time. I might play a house mix again sometime in the future but the Jaykits mixes I listen to regularly. I only recently stopped listening to the last one towards the end of last year. Vol. 22 is still something I’m pretty proud of.
The process of gathering tunes for this mix started back in September. A bit of incidental music from the TV show Mindhunter, an album track by Yazoo and an ethereal piece by an act called Irys Blum were to be centrepieces. As usual, I plunged the depths of the various 3 minute ambient playlists on Spotify for the odd tune that stood out (I recommend the Dreamy Vibes playlist). There were a few.
After the Caddyshack theme of the summer mix, I turned to my favourite movie of all time, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, for the mix backbone. Randle arriving, back in action and the chief speaking were sampled. The 50th anniversary version of the closing theme was also used. I can see the sink getting ripped out and the chief escaping.
I also got immersed in a bit of software called PaulXStretch on the back of last years Still Out album by KiF, where it was used to great effect. This allows samples to be stretched, changing them completely. Samples were captured from some tunes (The Orb ‘Close Encounters’, Kaleidoscope by Kaleidoscope and Lazarus by The Boo Radleys) and stretched them between 2-8 times. They provide bridges during the mix as well as some background to some of the spoken word.
Charity shopping often provides unexpected rewards. Tanita Tikaram’s Ancient Heart album was one I picked up late 2025. It contains Valentine Heart, an overlooked gem of an album track. The violin section was stretched and the full song used right after. It’s a really beautiful piece of music.
TV plays a big part in these mixes. Apart from Mindhunter and the aforementioned One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Landman also provided some emotive music. The theme tune and a haunting piece that soundtracked the most harrowing part of the series was used. The theme tune closes the mix.
Finally, The KLF Space was used in its entirety throughout the mix. Peaking out during some of the quieter moments.
The final working file looked as follows:

I could go into all the tunes used but that’s enough as there’s a tracklist below:
